May 2006: Festival Bana y'Africa has moved to Dundas Square
Following its continued success, the 2006 Festival Bana y'Africa will be held at the accessible and fabulous Dundas Square, Toronto. Featuring numerous local and international artists, this Festival will once again be the hang-out spot for the Summer's end. The 4th annual Bana y'Africa is a free outdoor celebration of African music and culture for the whole family to enjoy. The Bana y'Africa 2005 festival features a main concert stage with performances by award-winning African musical groups and exciting traditional dancers. From north to south and east to west, come and experience rhythms from the African continent!
August 7, 2004: Toronto: Africa New Music Presents Festival Bana y'Africa 2004 with Papa Wemba on Sunday August 29
Bana y’Afrique is a free outdoor celebration of African music and culture for the whole family to enjoy. The 4th annual African festival will take place at Nathan Phillips Square on Sunday, August 29th from 12 noon – 11:p.m.
The Bana y’Afrique 2004 festival features a main concert stage with performances by award-winning African musical groups and exciting traditional dancers: Papa Wemba with Viva la Musica & Nouvelle Tendance, Nouvel Exposé Dance Troupe, Yoshi Lumanda, Sibongile Nene, Yannick Bokelo, Husssein Said, Aaron, Iyasa Traditional, Chassaya Sichilima and more. From north to south and east to west, come and experience rhythms from the African continent.
The Bana y’Afrique market will feature vendors and cultural organizations with a wide array of crafts and clothing from the continent and the opportunity to sample delicious African foods. A journey to the continent of Africa right here in downtown Toronto.
This African music and arts celebration, Bana y’Afrique Festival is a free event organized by Africa New Music. Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of African music and culture in Toronto.
Today, 10 artists of African origin add another dimension to the Francophone culture of Ontario, while keeping the richness of their heritage on this two-volume Bana y'Africa CD compilation of 20 songs.
The artists taking you on this journey are Afro Connexion, ZPN, Sibongile Nene, Madagascar Slim, Fojeba, Njacko Backo, Siècle 21, Hussein Said, Senegalese Traditional Troupe and Yoshi Lumanda.
The CD release party will be on May 15, 2004 with performances by some of the artists on the compilation, African food, and much dancing.
